OK, ok . . . so, I'm starting a blog. Not sure what I'll use it for (or if I will really use it at all?) At this point, I'm planning to put in posts about things I'm making, or beads I've found, resources I've discovered. I might add in a regular 'etsy finds' type of feature, or blog about cooking and life in general. The blog really needs a better name, too. (Suggestions welcome)
To start, a quick post about something I've finally finished making after quite some time . . . an ambitious (for me) red creek jasper necklace. It used a lot of techniques I hadn't tried before, most of which I learned or modified from the book "Inspired Wire" by Cynthia Wuller.
All beads in the piece are red creek jasper-this is one of my new favorite beads because of the natural variations in the stones makes each one totally unique! You can still find nice matches for earrings, though.

Making and attaching the little series of figure eight links for the chain was totally new to me, and the book had very easy-to-follow instructions. Making my own clasp, which I've never done before, was also pretty easy although didn't come out looking quite like the photo in the book without a little tweaking. I also made the connector for the pendant. It came out pretty much the way I wanted, although the necklace sometimes gets twisted while I'm wearing it. If anyone has an idea as to how to prevent that, I'd love your input!
